HONE Large (Hotel) Hot Water System.

This installation is our standard HONE Commercial Hot Water System, designed to provide  hot water to the lodge all year round. In this location the HONE system will provide a significant amount of the heat energy required annually. This lodge is an existing building which makes the installation of HONE very straight forward. The lodge has a wood pellet boiler which supplied 100% of all heat & hot water previously. HONE is now the primary heat source for water backed up by the wood pellet boiler. The building originally had a large solar hot water panel systems which was removed.

What HONE system has been installed here?

The system installed is a standard HONE Commercial Hot Water System. The original wood pellet boiler now acts as a backup when needed and provides heating when needed also. The HONE system is the core hot water system.

What was the motivation for the homeowner to do the upgrade?

The lodge consumes a lot of energy annually and winter season is as busy as summer season. The existing solar hot water system was not able to match summer consumption so the commercial wood pellet boiler was required to run 24/7, 365 days a year as backup. The HONE system was designed in a multi heat engine design for very high performance and recovery so allowing the wood pellet boiler to switch off for several months of the year.

 

The advantages for the homeowners are a much reduced energy bill, significantly less cleaning and loading of wood pellet fuel annually in addition to a significant improvement in air quality around the lodge. The smell from the wood pellet boiler in summer was very noticeable.

Where there any challenges with this installation?

This house was a retrofit, a very simple straight forward project. This project used radiators throughout the building with a large volume hot water cylinder. The existing system was left in situ and the HONE system integrated easily.

What are the savings expected?

This (hotel type) system is designed to do most of the annual hot water in the year, at least 65% and 100% of all hot water needs from May to Sept.
