Europe’s Best Government Certified A1 nZEB Energy rated home breaks more renewable records

It’s now only a couple of days away from the shortest day of the year. The exact date (17th-22nd) depends on where you are located in the northern hemisphere. The Winter Solstice impacts any renewable energy technology that depends on Solar Radiation. In Ireland which has the lowest light levels in the world, the sun angle rises to a lowly 12.7 degrees from horizontal at this time of year and that is only achieved briefly at 12 noon.

The current Government Met office data for the West of Ireland shown below from this location is a real-time chart of the amount of solar radiation this year month by month. It may surprise many people that this year, 2018, December is trending at 50% less energy this month than in a normal year. The solar radiation received in Dec 2018 so far is just 4% of total solar radiation received in May or June. It is normally closer to 10%.

This home currently holds the Best nZEB A1 Energy Rating of any house in Europe, it was originally an E1 and has been upgraded with a HONE Thermal/Electric Renewable Energy system and now holds the best A1 Rating in Europe. It makes all its own heat, hot water, electricity and water.

Today (16th Dec 2018), this HONE renewable system broke more records for performance. This home has no other energy sources except HONE (which uses Daylight instead of Sunlight) and this winter performance is the proof of how powerful HONE can be in Daylight EVEN in December and a couple of days away from the shortest day of the year.

Today (16th Dec 2018), this home produced over 25 kWhrs of free electricity (graph below), hitting a peak of 12.36 KW of production at 12.40pm outperforming Solar PV at this time of year by nearly 5 times in a like for like situation.    (HONE ELECTRIC)

The graph above shows you that electricity production started at 8:50am (sunrise @ 8:45am) and production stopped at 16:05pm (sunset 16:15pm) demonstrating HONE’s outstanding performance over legacy heat pumps, solar thermal and solar PV.

Also, today (16th Dec 2018), The Thermal part of the HONE Thermal/Electric system hit highs of 66.7C today, hotter than an oil or gas boiler and HONE is powered ONLY from free daylight. These temperatures in the depths of winter are higher than the capabilities of a heat pump or solar thermal (solar hot water) in the middle of summer.
